Основные правила выбора формы:

  1. There is (There’s) — для единственного числа или неисчисляемых предметов (tea, water, paper).

  2. There are — только для множественного числа.

  3. Отрицание: There is not (There isn’t) / There are not (There aren’t).

  4. Вопрос: Глагол выносится вперед: Is there…? / Are there…?

  5. Краткие ответы строятся по схеме: Yes, there is / No, there isn’t или Yes, there are / No, there aren’t.

Важно: Мы используем there is/are, когда говорим о новом объекте («В офисе есть кофе»), но используем it is, когда говорим о конкретном объекте, который уже упоминали («Кофе холодный»).

Конструкция there is / there are используется в офисном Small Talk, чтобы сообщить о наличии (или отсутствии) чего-либо или кого-либо в определенном месте. На уровне Pre-A1 это основной способ описать офис, кухню или ситуацию на парковке.

1. Офисное пространство и мебель

  • There is a new desk in the office. – В офисе есть новый стол.
  • There are four chairs in the meeting room. – В переговорной четыре стула.
  • Is there a window in your room? – В твоей комнате есть окно?
  • There aren’t any pens on the table. – На столе нет ручек.

2. Люди и встречи

  • There is a client in the lobby. – В лобби клиент.
  • There are many people in the meeting. – На встрече много людей.
  • Is there a manager in the office? – Менеджер в офисе есть?
  • There is a call for you. – Для вас звонок.

3. Технологии и оборудование

  • There is a printer in the hall. – В корилоре есть принтер.
  • There are two computers on the desk. – На столе два компьютера.
  • There is a problem with the Wi-Fi. – Есть проблема с Wi-Fi.
  • Are there any chargers? – Есть ли зарядные устройства?

4. Офисная кухня и еда

  • There is some milk in the fridge. – В холодильнике есть немного молока.
  • There are cookies in the kitchen. – На кухне есть печенье.
    Is there any tea? – Есть ли чай?
  • There is no water in the cooler. – В кулере нет воды.
